Karaikudi is located in Sivagangai district on the trichy-rameswaram Highway. Earlier it was a small village in ramanathapuram distrist. In 1928 it was changed from panchayat to municipality . The city is well connected by Railways and Roadways since 1930. The flows through South Karaikudi. Karaikudi's Postal pincode is 630001 and Dialing code is 91-4565. It is 300 km from Coimbatore, 90 km from Trichy, 80 km from Madurai, and 400 km from Chennai, 50 km from Pudukkottai.


ROLE OF CHETTIARS IN KARAIKUDI - The chettiars played a very important role in developing karaikudi.vallal alagappar is the best example.He opened the alagappa university which is very famous throuhgout the country.It gives education to most of the people in and around karaikudi.A.C.tech is one of the finest engineering colleges of all time in karakudi.The lateral entries attend single window admissions(counselling) in karaikudi for joining B.E course across tamilnadu.karaikudi is one of the best place for education in south tamilnadu.



Apart from education karaikudi is also famous for shooting spots.This is because of A.V.meyyapa chettiar(AVM).He opened the AVM studio in karaikudi.slowly he moved it towards chennai(vadapalani).AVM is one of the best producer which produced famous films in tamil film industry
